What is PRF/PRP? What are the advantages?

During oral surgery, saliva, bacteria, and other contaminants the may enter the surgery site. Furthermore, bone naturally has little blood supply compared to other tissues in the human body. Thus, it lacks the ability to heal quickly and has less defense against infections. Additionally, if you suffer with a medical condition that slows healing time, PRP/PRF can increase your chances of an easier recovery.

Platelets contain substances such as growth factors critical for wound healing. In a natural healing process, your blood delivers some of this but plasma comprises only 55% of your blood. PRP and PRF allow delivery in a more concentrated and direct manner. Depending on how much plasma will be needed, we will draw the appropriate amount of blood. We then place the viles of blood in a centrifuge that spins the sample at high speeds. The top layer of plasma is then extracted and ready to be applied to any necessary surgical area.

Following a tooth extraction,  you want to heal as quickly as possible to get back to your normal day-to-day. The latest technique of PRP treatment during tooth extractions allow for a shorter healing time as well as decreasing surgical discomfort and swelling.

The success of your implant highyl depends on how well the implant and bone heal together as well as the surrounding soft tissue. To give your implant the best chance at lasting you a lifetime, ask if PRP is appropriate for you.
